Spanish Football Postpones Cup Matches Following Death of Jesús de Miguel

Spanish football has been plunged into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponing several domestic cup fixtures scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The decision followed the tragic death of the 30-year-old forward after a serious on-field collision during Tenerife’s match against FC Andorra.

As a mark of respect, the federation confirmed that the scheduled Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures would not go ahead.

Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina Fixtures Postponed

The postponements affect three matches originally scheduled for Tuesday.

In the Copa del Rey, Anaitasuna’s meeting with Deportivo Alavés and CD Pamplona’s clash with Eibar have been postponed.

The Copa de la Reina fixture between Celta Vigo and Espanyol has also been called off.

The RFEF stated that new dates and kick-off times would be communicated in the coming days after arrangements have been made with the clubs involved.

Spain U21 Presentation Event Also Suspended

The federation also suspended the official presentation event in Almendralejo for Spain’s upcoming Under-21 match against Japan.

However, the announcement referred specifically to the presentation event. It did not confirm that the actual Spain U21 match had been postponed.

Champions League Matches Remain Scheduled

Despite the domestic cup postponements, Tuesday’s Spanish-based UEFA Champions League fixtures remain scheduled to proceed.

These include Atlético Madrid against Bayern Munich, Barcelona against Aston Villa and Villarreal against Paris Saint-Germain.

There was no official announcement from UEFA postponing these European fixtures at the time of reporting.

Spanish Football Pays Tribute to Jesús de Miguel

De Miguel’s death has sent shockwaves throughout Spanish football, with clubs, players and football organisations expressing their condolences.

The RFEF has extended its support to his family, friends, teammates and everyone connected with CD Tenerife during this difficult period.

The postponement of the domestic cup fixtures reflects the sadness surrounding the loss of the Tenerife forward.

Spanish football now awaits further communication from the federation regarding rearranged dates for the affected matches.
