Bayern Munich Confirm Ismael Saibari's Ankle Surgery as Midfielder Faces Three-Month Injury Layoff
Bayern Munich Suffer Major Injury Blow as Ismael Saibari Undergoes Ankle Surgery
Bayern Munich have confirmed that Ismael Saibari has undergone successful surgery after suffering a serious ankle injury during their Bundesliga encounter against Borussia Dortmund.
The Moroccan international sustained the injury during Saturday's 2–2 draw against Dortmund on October 31, 2026. Following medical examinations, Bayern confirmed that the midfielder had suffered a tear of the syndesmosis ligament in his right ankle.
Saibari was subsequently taken for surgery, which the club confirmed was successful on Sunday.
Saibari Faces Lengthy Spell on the Sidelines
The injury represents a significant setback for the 25-year-old, who will now begin the recovery and rehabilitation process.
Although Bayern have not officially confirmed a specific return date, reports indicate that Saibari could be sidelined for approximately three months, with February 2027 being mentioned as a possible return period.
The club will be keen to ensure that the Moroccan international receives sufficient time to recover before returning to competitive action.
Another Concern for Bayern Munich
Saibari's injury adds to Bayern Munich's growing fitness concerns following the disappointing result against Borussia Dortmund.
Serge Gnabry also suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during the same match, while Michael Olise was forced off with an apparent injury.
With several attacking options facing fitness concerns, Bayern will need other members of the squad to step forward during this challenging period.
Focus Turns to Recovery
For Saibari, the immediate priority will be completing his rehabilitation and returning to full fitness.
The Moroccan international will be hoping to overcome this setback and return stronger when he is ready to resume playing.
Bayern Munich and their supporters will certainly be wishing him a smooth recovery.
Get well soon, Ismael Saibari!
