Cristiano Ronaldo: “I Have Never Interfered in Any Coach’s Decision”
Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on the recent controversy surrounding his departure from Portugal's national-team camp, insisting that he has never interfered in a coach's technical or tactical decisions during his career.
In a lengthy statement, Ronaldo explained his version of events and addressed his relationship with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.
🗣️ Ronaldo on Coach Decisions
Ronaldo strongly rejected the suggestion that he has attempted to influence a manager's decisions.
“In almost 25 years I have never interfered in a technical decision.”
The Portugal captain said he respects decisions made by coaches, but added that he felt his position had become difficult after what he described as a breakdown in trust.
Ronaldo's statement comes after a dispute over his involvement in Portugal's recent Nations League fixtures. The circumstances surrounding the disagreement have also been discussed publicly by the Portugal coach.
✋ Ronaldo Accepts Responsibility
Ronaldo also addressed his decision to leave the Portugal camp.
The forward apologised to his teammates and accepted that he should take responsibility for leaving.
“I apologise to my teammates for leaving. The responsibility is mine alone.”
He also said he understood that the Portuguese Football Federation could punish him and argued that, as captain, he should be held to a higher standard.
🇵🇹 His Commitment to Portugal
Despite the controversy, Ronaldo made it clear that his commitment to the Portuguese national team remains strong.
He rejected the idea that his immediate focus should be on a farewell and instead stressed that representing Portugal is about competing.
Ronaldo also recalled remaining with the national team after the death of his father, saying that he stayed until the next match had finished because of his commitment to his country.
🔥 Ronaldo Still Wants to Compete
Ronaldo ended his statement by reaffirming his willingness to continue representing Portugal.
He said that if he is physically fit and performing for his club, he will remain available for the national team after serving any suspension that may be imposed.
The statement provides Ronaldo's own account of the dispute and makes one thing clear: he still wants to compete for Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal. Still committed. 🇵🇹❤️
